Doug Crothers

Douglass Crothers
Batted: Right
Threw: Right
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 140 lbs.
Born: November 16, 1859 in Natchez, MS
Died: March 29, 1907 in St. Louis, MO

Doug joined the Metropolitans the year after their championship run, and he took eighteen of the starts that would presumably have gone to Tim Keefe if they had been able to retain him. Needless to say, the Mets did not repeat as champions, which is not meant to disparage the efforts of Mr. Crothers-it's just that the departed Mr. Keefe was a Hall of Famer, and a worthy one at that.  The picture above comes courtesy of Baseball-Reference.com.
