Baseball-Reference.com lists this fellow as
"Andy Sommers," and makes his complete name to be "John Andrew
Sommers." Whichever it was, if he
had gotten just one more at-bat in the big leagues and had somehow managed to
scratch out a hit, he would have retired with a career .200 batting average. As
Providence would have it, though, he ended up south of the Mendoza Line, a
hundred years before Mendoza. The card pictured is from the Old Judge set; it
is most definitely not in my collection.
